It should feature a custom illustration of their truck, trailer, and canoes. Execution: I chose exaggerated cartoonish proportions because the client responded positively to other work I'd done in a similar style. All four of the truck's tires have left the road, for a playful, cartoonish bounce as they careen down the two-lane highway. I set the scene in a desert with saguaro cacti because the client's home base was in Mesa, Arizona. I washed everything in shades of purple and yellow for an atmospheric, desert sunset feel. It is not shown here, but on the printed material, a spot gloss layer was added to the matte finish specifically on the vehicles' windows, so that they would glisten in actual sunlight. Execution: I envisioned beef boy as a naively optimistic fellow, because I thought it offset his gruesome appearance in a playful way. From his cap, to his wide-eyed smile, to his enthusiastic wave, I drew a lot of inspiration from Spongebob for this character. Him standing in his own dripping viscera was a late addition, but really cements who this character is - a little guy who, despite being a walking health hazard, has all the joy in the world. Camp Critter #1 should be the start of a ghost story at a campfire. Execution: Cinematic orange and blue campfire lighting introduces us to the campers. The second row, a single continuous scene broken into four cells, almost feels like a camera panning left to right. In the final cell, glowing teal text matches the counselor's spooky tale to an actual haunted cabin there on the campgrounds. Execution: For whatever reason, a lot of street art characters I've seen have had the wrong number of eyes. I made our jackalope a cyclops. Typically, when you think jackalope mythology, you think of rural desert and prairie environs. For a street art context, I wanted to spin that on its head and give him a debonair, world-traveled, playboy personality, made all the more ironic by the fact that he is literally mounted to a wall. The underlighting adds a dramatic touch. I did much of this work in Photoshop's symmetry mode. Leafy vector assets populate both the background and the foreground. A scale texture was applied to Humperdink's skin in Photoshop. A black and white version should be legible at small sizes when put next to the artists' own work. Execution: I played off the Kaboom in the name with the bomb imagery. I kept both the image and the typography cartoonish to separate them from any violent associations. This also fits the artist's aesthetic. And of course, I made sure to use each of the 4-color process colors in my palette. Execution: I found a font with multiple glyph options so that I could adorn the "C" in "Cascadia" without overdoing it in "Candle" and "Co." I stacked that on top of a topological map texture to tie it to the Cascadian Mountain Range and a brown paper texture for a rustic but sophisticated Pacific Northwest vibe. Execution: I figured with an ampersand name, I might feature that character prominently. So when I was browsing fonts, I did it with the ampersand in mind. When I found this one, I noticed a little stylized flame in the negative space. I colored it in a couple shades of orange, and the rest was fairly simple.
